Ed Jaramillo Made Estate-Plan Gift to the MMRF to Help Support Mission to Find New Treatments and Cures

Photo of Ed & Jackie JaramilloEdward Dean Jaramillo was born in Hayward, California, and with familial roots in New Mexico, Edward was proud of his heritage. He grew up with both a love for sailing and a passion for teaching.

Ed pursued adventures at sea and worked at the Peralta Community College of Alameda’s Auto Technology Department. He served two decades on the union’s executive council and was elected president in 2015. Ed always felt it was important to give back to the next generation of teachers and automobile technicians and was proud to serve in this capacity.

When he wasn’t backpacking or sailing, he was outdoors working for Habitat for Humanity. After he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in February of 2012, he created his trust and named the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) as a significant beneficiary.

From backpacking across the Sierras to sailing the San Francisco bay, Ed’s engaging smile and gentle disposition earned him respect and friendship throughout his community; he will be dearly missed by his wife Jackie, family, friends, and colleagues. Jackie will always treasure their biggest sailing adventure when they chartered a boat in the British Virgin Islands.

Ed was very grateful about the incredible progress in multiple myeloma research—with new drug approvals extending patients’ lifespans—and credited that momentum to the MMRF.

Because of his commitment to helping others and because Ed believed in the MMRF’s strategy of driving to new treatments and cures, Ed bestowed the MMRF with a significant gift in his will. “It was very sad when he ran out of options; but even then, he met it with courage. He was one of a kind,” Jackie said.
